Electric Design Turns 22

Electric has reached the ripe old age of 22, and in celebration of this we’ve done some digging. Turns out the number 22 crops up in some weird and wonderful places:

  1. Screen 22 is the name of Europe’s smallest cinema. It’s in Nottingham and has just 22 seats.
  2. There are 22 stars in the Paramount logo.
  3. A chain is a unit of measurement equalling 22 yards.
  4. A cricket pitch is also 22 yards in length.
  5. In France, the number 22 is used to warn people that the police are coming.
  6. Joseph Heller’s famous novel gave us the phrase “Catch 22”, where a situation is seemingly impossible to solve.
  7. The human head is made up of 22 bones. 8 are in the cranium and 14 are in the face.
  8. In URLs, quotation marks are represented as “%22”.
  9. American comedian Jack E. Leonard would answer “22” to any question needing a numerical response.
  10. In a football match, there are 22 players in a match. This is also true for American football.
  11. The Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters.
  12. The number 22 is the atomic number for Titanium.
  13. British videogame designer Peter Molyneux, winner of the OBE, founded game developer 22 Cans in 2012.
  14. There’s a website called 22Facts.com with 22 facts each for a wide variety of subjects.
  15. The number 22 has its own Twitter account, though it hasn’t seen much use lately.
  16. In a Tarot deck, the Major Arcana (containg allegorical figures like The Fool) is made of 22 cards.
  17. Musician Paul Weller has an album called 22 Dreams with 22 songs on it.
  18. Jay-Z rhymes the words to, too and two 22 times in the first verse of his song “22 Twos.”
  19. There are 22 cars in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series.
  20. A dicosahedron is a shape with 22 faces.
  21. In 1999 there was a TV show called Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, which had Sherlock solving crimes alongside a robotic Watson.
  22. There’s an episode of the Simpsons called “22 Short Films about Springfield”, where we spend our time learning about some of Springfield’s wacky inhabitants.
