Membership grows weekly for Johnstone’s Decorating Centre customer loyalty scheme
Johnstone’s Trade is one of the key players in the UK decorative paint industry with over 190 Johnstone’s Decorating Centre outlets across the UK and Ireland (they also sponsor the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy for those non footie fans!).
Johnstone’s challenged Electric to a pitch to create a new brand for a customer club card scheme. After research to gain an understanding of what makes the potential members tick, a considerable number of team ideas sessions, a detailed strategy document detailing how the scheme would work and be marketed, not to mention a stroke of creative genius, we put together some concepts and low and behold won the pitch … and so, Johnstone’s Big Red Rewards was born.

Design sells. So says our client, postcode software specialist Geoplan.
We met Geoplan in 2004 and have worked with them ever since. Geoplan delivers world-class geographic information solutions that improve business performance – pretty crucial in today’s competitive market we think you’ll agree.
Initially, our brief was to work on some product catalogues for them, which we did. But it soon became apparent they were keen to develop their brand identity, which we did. The new brand has since been rolled out across all their marketing activity – 152 items to date!
We love working with clients who really appreciate that good design sells. ‘Award winning design’ was what they asked for and they were more than happy with the results. We’ll be honest, we didn’t win an award but we did get our packaging work ‘published’!
JP Distribution is one of the UK’s leading distributors of kitchens, bathrooms and appliances to major UK retailers and the retail independent sector.
Having worked with JPD for 12 years, our main focus has been to produce the twice-yearly product catalogue. For each issue our challenge, from a production and print perspective, is to make sure the 380-page catalogue, which houses almost 11,000 products, is produced more efficiently than the last and is delivered on time, every time.
Our successful track record on the print front has led to JPD more recently involving us with digital work, including the design and development of a website primarily for use by JPD’s customers giving them the facility to view and order the very latest literature as well as logging in to a useful quick order tool.
With increasing media exposure, Jean-Christophe Novelli, the well-known chef, approached Electric to develop a brand. The brand had to represent and enhance his celebrity status and work across many different formats, including wine bottles, cookware packaging and general marketing material.
At the very start of the project, we spent time with Jean-Christophe and his team to understand better the personalities and dynamics of the Novelli brand. Research of the celebrity chef market was the key to identifying a unique position for the Novelli brand within this highly active and competitive market. To ensure the brand maintained its market position and that there was consistency across all products and communication, Electric produced brand guidelines for the chosen logo and growing Novelli brand.

Website documents a key part of British American History
Men with Custer is an historical reference website, dedicated to the British men who fought at the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876. An ongoing project, it documents key facts like birthplace, date of enlistment and where they were in the battle. It is designed to be both factual and accessible to everyone from the veteran historian to the fresh-faced young history student. Our client wanted a website that was accessible and looked professional, and on that front we’re very confident we succeeded.
Opening in 1930, Bradford’s legendary Odeon cinema later fell into disrepair. In an effort to save it from demolition, the Bradford Odeon Rescue Group was formed, and the resulting campaign has saved it from demolition, as least temporarily. The campaign has also attracted the support of many legendary stars, from Michael Palin to Dame Judi Dench. With luck, this vital part of British history will be preserved for years to come.

British Startup Makes Winning Moves with Quiz Game
Cards on the table: British startup Linkee is a novel new quiz game anyone can play. Deceptively simple, but hard to master, the three guys made an appearance on BBC TV show Dragons’ Den and have been going from strength to strength. Electric has designed their website, created a set of bespoke graphics and even built an online shop to allow people to buy Linkee direct from the creators. They can even create their own questions, with the chance they will be featured in future runs of the game.
